High up in the pristine mountains above Peru’s Sandia Valley, Eulalia Champi has dedicated much of her life to farming a 2-hectare plot of well-tended coffee trees on the fertile slope of her family farm, which she calls Cedroyoc. Despite the creeping ubiquity of higher-yielding and disease-resistant hybrids throughout Latin America, Eulalia has remained true to the original Bourbon cultivar brought here decades ago by a United Nations program tasked with converting Coca growers back to coffee farming. Eulalia grows Bourbon trees exclusively, and, for this, we are forever in her debt. We at FGC are eternal devotees of the Bourbon variety, especially when grown under ideal conditions. Elevation, in particular, is what supercharges the flavor of the Bourbon coffee fruit, and Eulalia’s farm tops out at a staggering 1980 meters above sea level! Everything is in place here for the perfect representation of high-grown Bourbon coffee. This is a small lot and will sell out quickly. Don’t miss it!
Tasting Notes: High-grown Bourbon cultivar brings bright fruit (watermelon and black cherry) intensity balanced with an elevated toffee-like sweetness.
Eulalia Champi is a featured grower in Flying Goat Coffee’s Women Coffee Farmer’s Initiative (WCFI). This coffee is also part of our Rare and Really Good (RARG!) offering list.
