Flying Goat Coffee’s friendship with Nancy Hernandez stretches back more than a decade and remains one of our most successful producer partnerships in Central America.
We first met Nancy during a trip to Honduras’s renowned Marcala coffee-growing region in 2013 and her coffee has been a featured offering ever since. “Nancy’s Coffee” – as we all lovingly refer to it — is a perennial favorite and is always one of our most popular single-farm offerings.
Starting at a young age, Nancy has worked in nearly every facet of the coffee industry, from picking cherries and cleaning milling equipment, to managing cafes and green coffee export. She is a genuine coffee phenom who has succeeded in the hierarchical and male-dominated Honduran coffee world through true grit and intrinsic optimism. After finishing her education, Nancy used her savings to buy three acres of land in a prime coffee-growing area just outside of her community of Trapiche. Under native shade trees, and with the help of her sister and mother, Nancy planted traditional Bourbon and Catuai varietals, choosing to focus on fruit quality rather than total yield. Today, Finca Jazmin is an exemplary Honduran coffee farm, producing small lots of exceptional washed coffee while also maintaining meticulous sustainability standards through biodynamic farming practices, water conservation, and soil regeneration. Nancy continues to manage the day-to-day operations of the farm with the help of her two daughters (Angelica & Luciana Jazmin), her Husband (Arturo), and her brothers. Our 10-year relationship with Nancy and Finca Jazmin is a powerful confirmation of the producer partnership model and the mutual benefit we all receive from it.
