COSTA RICA - LOMAS AL RIO “HONEY COFFEE”

We import this unusual coffee from our friend Francisco Mena, whose family operates the Lomas mill in Costa Rica's West Valley. This coffee is unique for two reasons: First, it is 100% Villa Sarchi, a cultivar that originated in Costa Rica as a mutation of the prized Bourbon species. The Lomas al Rio is also a "honey processed" coffee, which means that after pulping, the mucilage (the sticky, suger-laden outer layer surrounding the bean) is left intact during the drying process. The result? At a medium dark roast we get rich syrupy body, and a sweet aftertaste with notes of ripe melon and clover honey.
